In today's world it can be difficult to make time for hobbies. There are so many distractions and tasks to just getting through the day to day. The number one thing that has helped me make time for art has been creating my own watercolor travel kit. Once I had put mine together I went from painting at home once a month or when I had time, to painting whenever and wherever. It is what took me from being someone who solely copies other people paintings and tutorials to learning to create my own pieces. Mostly the convenience of having my watercolors with me on the go helped me dedicate time to practicing.
When assembling a travel kit I wanted to create a kit that was small enough to be portable, yet had quality items in it. I did some research to find the items that would be functional and organized. Here is what I came up with and have still been using to this day.
CASE
BRUSHES
WATER CUP
PAINTS
WATERCOLOR SKETCHBOOK
PALETTE AND INSERT
I use an Altoid tin + this insert:
OTHER ITEMS
In addition to the items above I carry a piece of a paper towel, a syringe to wet my palette with water drops (a tiny spray bottle would be even more ideal), a mechanical pencil, art eraser, a black pen and a white gel pen, and a water brush.
